ABOUT US
Welcome to Betty’s Club — where every visit brings connection, fun, and wellbeing.
Founded in memory of Betty Sargent, whose generous legacy inspires our work, Betty’s Club is a community dementia support club for people living with dementia and their families in north Norfolk.
At Betty’s Club, every day is about engagement, purpose and friendship — indoors and out. Together, we are creating a place filled with laughter, learning and mutual understanding.
We offer a range of enjoyable activities— chosen by our members for members, in a safe, supportive environment— where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered.
Learning workshops for families help our members to share experiences and build their confidence by delivering practical guidance to understand and cope with the experience of dementia.
Our 'WITH' framework and values
Life is always better when we are supported and have stimulating things to do. However, for local people living with dementia, organisations specialising in meaningful pastimes are largely absent in the area.
In the media, negative dementia stereotypes and the corresponding gloomy prospects for the person, abound creating an unwarranted and undignified portrayal of any person with dementia, disregards their uniqueness and the individual respect they deserve and can drive fear about their potential behaviour.
Equally, the needs of round-the-clock carers are frequently overlooked. Often isolated by their circumstances, they need equal (if different) types of support in their lives and relationships.
Our WITH Framework (Wellbeing, Involvement Thoughtfulness and Hope) supports and drives all we do and offer at Betty’s Club

In the media, negative dementia stereotypes abound. The common bias that a person with dementia is less capable or intelligent, creates an unwarranted and undignified portrayal of any person with dementia, disregards their uniqueness and the individual respect they deserve and can drive fear about their potential behaviour.

Community and Discussion
Community and Discussion
Our vision is to provide a range of regular, social, stimulating and engaging activities chosen by and for our members with a dementia diagnosis.
For their family carers seeking guidance, we provide reliable, relevant practical information and emotional and social counselling and support, under-pinned by already well-recognised best practice and experience.
Our Members
Our Members are the heart of Betty’s Club. Like other meeting centres in the UK, Betty’s Club is based on the original model developed in the early 2000s in the Netherlands. Studies show that people with dementia feel happier, are more active and develop new friendships around them, while family carers experience less anxiety and feel more confident and competent to provide for the changing care needs of their loved ones.
Anecdotal evidence suggests our model reduces carer stress, builds new friendships, and improves wellbeing for everyone involved.
Our Volunteers
We are building greater awareness and understanding in the local community. Our Betty’s Club Team and Volunteers are supported and trained in dementia communication in order to respond pro-actively to the needs of our Members because we aim to improve the wellbeing and self-worth of all our members and volunteers.
Support & Donations
Betty’s Club exists thanks to the kindness and generosity of our community. Every cup of tea poured, every activity enjoyed, and every new friendship formed is made possible by the people who believe in what we do.
Your support — whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word — helps us create a warm, safe and joyful place for people living with dementia and those who care for them.
We rely on local fundraising, grants, and the dedication of supporters to keep our doors open and our programmes thriving. From facilitating activity sessions and maintaining our sensory garden, to providing training for our volunteers, every penny we raise is used to make life better for our members.
And you can help us… Whether you choose to organise a coffee morning or other event, take part in a sponsored challenge, or make a regular donation, you’ll be helping us continue our mission — to bring friendship, community and wellbeing, to those who need it most.
Together, we can make a lasting difference.
